Materials and Logistics Specialist
Job Summary and MissionStarbucks’ newest group, the makers of the Clover, are looking for an individual with a vision and the ability to optimize material flow in a manufacturing environment from receipt of goods to customer fulfillment Participation in the continual efforts to create an effective “visual workplace” are essential. This environment will allow you to express your communication skills, attention to detail and creative thinking to achieve departmental and company wide lean objectives.
Summary of Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Lean objectives – This role will participate in applying lean materials flow methodology to help us build and improve our lean material flow processes.
- Help define ideal materials flow process for existing manufacturing line and service group
- Participate in the creation of lean systems and document standard work processes for the following area’s:
- Finished goods staging and asset tracking
- Material receipts
- Plan for Every Part database maintenance
- Internal production material signaling, coordination and auditing
- Internal material flow routes and schedules
- Central Stores (including sizing and cycle counting)
- Continually monitor and improve the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of all daily material and logistics activities in order to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction
Daily Responsibilities – Performs and optimizes daily activities in both shipping/receiving and inventory control areas.
- Process and optimize all activities such as shipping, receiving, stocking, issuing, obsolescing and inspecting materials for production and service departments.
- Support quality initiatives for manufacturing and supply chain
- Support and lead initiatives that increase Inventory turns and Inventory accuracy (cycle counts, outside processing, etc.). Inventory that cannot be eliminated should be visually managed throughout the entire Value Stream. Inventory includes; raw material, custom purchased components, work in process, and finish goods.
- Create and maintain metrics to evaluate effectiveness of material and logistics.
- Participate in the monthly close and investigate/resolve material discrepancies with supply chain, production, accounting and quality personnel.
Summary of Experience- Experience with domestic and international shipping 2 years
- Lean Material handling in a manufacturing environment 3-5 years
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Comprehensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing with proven implementation skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a highly energized environment.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to motivate, guide/train, and present information to small groups.
- Strong computer skills including familiarity with MRP systems.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry 50 lbs.

Lead Assembly Technician
Job Summary and MissionThis job contributes to Starbucks success through the help of production planning, managing, and assembling the worlds best coffee machine, the Clover 1S. Bestow your mechanical, electrical, and supervisorial skills to the small energetic team that designs and manufactures the Clover 1S. Utilize both hand and mind to assist this team ramp up volume in an efficient, quality focused, and lean fashion.
Summary of Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership & Lean Objectives – As volume increases, supervise a team of assemblers by creating and following schedules, tracking progress and failures, as well as meeting monthly targets. Learn the product family, create future state maps and strive for a lean value stream:
- Setup, plan, and train newly hired assemblers.
- Monitor assembler’s progress and needs, focusing on lean improvements.
- Manage and optimize work instructions, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
- Strategize inventory location and replenishment with supply chain to create a lean flow of materials from receipt to finished product.
- Create future state maps for continuous improvement toward a lean value stream.
- Team with shipping & receiving to design an efficient lean method of staging finished goods to align with the pull process.
- Optimize one-piece-flow by identifying cells and stations that contain the largest amount of waste and eliminating it through the kaizen process.
- Monitor and improve tact time through continuous improvements.
- Level load production monthly through planning, load-leveling box, or other lean tools.
- Improve the kanban signal portion of the pull process by identifying order and kanban placement.
- Interface with Design Engineers to seamlessly integrate sustaining changes into the production process.
Planning and Execution – Work with the deployment team to create a monthly configuration build schedule:
- Document work history during production and repair.
- Create and manage Work Orders.
- Data entry into an Excel based document.
- Track and report metrics such as speed, failures, and downtime.
- Interface with supply chain and shipping/receiving using the Non-Conforming Part process to aid in parts awareness.
Spatial and Mechanical Responsibilities – Apply direct labor, and attention to detail to assemble the Clover 1S and maintain the production facility:
- Support day-to-day production, including mechanical and electrical assembly, disassembly, and testing of our product which includes the following systems:
- Water systems: boiler, valves, plumbing, etc.
- Heating and temperature management systems.
- Electronic control: PCBAs, sensors, cabling, etc.
- Mechanisms: motors and valves.
- Medium to moderate lifting of parts and subassemblies.
- General upkeep of production facility to include, but not limited to:
- Daily production line organization and upkeep
- Trash/recycle separation and disposal: Go Green!
- Weekly/Monthly sweeping and/or mopping
Summary of Experience- Mechanical and electrical assembly 2+ years
- Knowledge of torque and force.
- Knowledge of various types of hardware and the necessary tools for assembly
- Experience with hand and power tools.
- Lean manufacturing techniques and implementation 3+ years
- Proven troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Experience and knowledge of the pull system, supermarkets, and signals
- General knowledge of tact time, production control, and value stream mapping
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to read, write, and follow assembly documentation, as well as engineering schematics.
- Formidable mechanical aptitude and passion for working on machines.
- Familiarity with test procedures and equipment.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Proven ability to implement solutions.
- Very high attention to detail, pride, and workmanship.
- Supervisorial skills and experience with lean manufacturing and processes.
- Experience with MS Word and Excel.
- General computer and network navigation skills.

- Coffee machine experience.
